Massachusetts requirements to know
- Certifications/apostilles can only be issued for documents bearing an original (not photocopied) signature of a Massachusetts Notary Public, Justice of the Peace, City/Town Clerk, Court Clerk, or Registrar of Vital Records.
- Walk-in customers may have up to three documents processed at the counter; four or more documents require pickup after 3 p.m. the next business day.
- Massachusetts does not authenticate federal or out-of-state documents, nor notarized copies of government-issued documents (e.g., a notarized photocopy of an FBI background check or another state's certificate of good standing).
- Fee is $6.00 per document, payable by check or money order to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; service is also available at regional offices in Fall River and Springfield.
Once you have the eligible document, GFG can review it, coordinate the apostille process, and arrange tracked return shipping. Additional certification requirements may apply depending on how the document was issued.
